As initial information, Satpas is a service unit that is responsible for all matters related to the Driving License (SIM). While Samsat is a service unit that is tasked with implementing the vehicle document process such as STNK and BPKB.

Driving License Administration Process
All administrative processes related to driving licenses are within the scope of Satpas. The process in question includes issuing new driving licenses, extending the validity period, and replacing lost or damaged driving licenses.

In the administrative process of issuing a SIM, theory and practical tests are also carried out. These two tests are crucial stages
where Satpas is responsible for supervising and ensuring that all participants meet the predetermined competency standards.
In addition, Satpas also has the right and authority to revoke a SIM. This right and authority are exercised if the SIM owner commits a serious violation of traffic regulations.
Types of Satpas
In Indonesia, Satpas service units are divided into two categories. The first is Satpas SIM and the second is Satpas Drive Thru. For Satpas SIM, this service unit provides SIM creation and extension services using a queuing system at the service location. This service is very suitable for SIM applicants who require direct service at the location.
Although SIM applicants must be physically present, the process at Satpas SIM is now more efficient thanks to the electronic queuing system that reduces waiting time.
Moving on now to the Satpas Drive Thru category. This service unit is a new innovation that allows SIM applicants to remain in the car during the process. This service aims to increase comfort and efficiency.
With this service unit, SIM applicants do not need to get out of their vehicles in the heat or rain to complete administrative matters.
Differences between Satpas and Samsat
The difference between these two service units lies in the focus of the service. Satpas has the responsibility and focus to serve administrative matters related to SIM such as making SIM, SIM extension, replacing lost or damaged SIM, as well as theory and practical tests to obtain SIM.
While Samsat focuses on handling vehicle administration services such as making STNK or paying BPKB for all types of vehicles, as well as letters related to vehicle tax.
The next difference is about the agencies involved. In Satpas, the agency involved is the Polri, where the implementation of responsibility is held by the Traffic Corps Work Unit (Satker).
While in Samsat, the agencies involved are not only the Polri. In this service unit, the Polri work together with Jasa Raharja and the Regional Revenue Service or Dispenda regarding managing motor vehicle tax. (Bembo)
