In the implementation of this event, the Kapolda of Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Karyoto also firmly emphasized the priority of education patterns for the community rather than the pattern of enforcement of traffic violations.
He said, that the purpose of this operation is to build public awareness that road safety is a shared responsibility. This awareness must be properly educated to motorcyclists, car drivers, and pedestrians so that they are understood and make behavior on the highway more disciplined.
In addition, Kapolda Karyoto also voiced the importance of vehicle inspections before use. He then gave an example of a pile-up at the Ciawi Toll Gate some time ago as a valuable lesson for all parties related to this matter. Technically, said Kapolda Karyoto, mechanical failures are indeed difficult to predict. However, efforts to carry out periodic checks can also be ensured to minimize the risk of accidents.
“Many accidents occur due to negligence. Whether it’s brake failure or other factors. Therefore, we urge the public to check their vehicles more routinely before traveling,” said Kapolda Karyoto at the Precision Field of the Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate, Monday, (10/2).
In general, Kapolda Karyoto continued, there are two main focuses of this operation. The first is checking the roadworthiness of the vehicle, especially the braking system and safety components. Then the second focus is on compliance with traffic signs to prevent accidents due to violations of the rules.
“We hope that the public will be more aware of the importance of road safety. That way, the number of accidents can be reduced, especially during the Eid homecoming,” he said.
Furthermore, Kapolda Karyoto also said, that this operation is part of the preparation for Operation Ketupat 2025 ahead of Eid. Therefore, in this operation, education will also be provided to motorcyclists not to carry excessive goods on long trips.
“Every year we see motorcyclists carrying excessive goods. In fact, it is very dangerous. If possible, send heavy goods via expedition. Don’t push yourself because it can risk accidents,” he reminded.
In this operation, Polda Metro Jaya deployed 2.939 joint personnel who will be spread across various points. The main focus of the personnel who were spread out is supervising drivers and vehicle eligibility, including KIR tests for public transportation.
In addition to focusing on safety, Polda Metro Jaya is also trying to reduce congestion at several vulnerable points, such as the HI Roundabout. Therefore, continued Kapolda Karyoto, Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya will form a special team to break up congestion as a solution. (Bembo)
