progresifjaya.id, JAKARTA – Polda Metro Jaya named MI (17), the truck driver who triggered a 9-vehicle accident at the Halim Utama Toll Gate (GT) as a suspect. MI faces a sentence of 4 years in prison for this incident.
“From the results of the interim examination, this child should be suspected of being a suspect,” said Dirlantas of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Latif Usman at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta Selatan, Friday, (29/3).
It was explained that to be held accountable for his actions, MI was charged under Article 311 paragraph 3 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning LLAJ (Road Traffic and Transportation).
“Article 311 paragraph 3 was imposed because the victim had minor injuries,” said Kombes Pol Latif.
Likewise, he continued, because his status was still a minor, his party also prioritized the Child Protection Law in investigating this case. Apart from that, his party will also coordinate with the Correctional Center (Bapas) to provide assistance.
“With the current situation which is of public concern, we are handling it using the existing regulations. We are using Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection. Because this (becoming a suspect) means this child is facing the law,” he explained.
As known, The accident occurred because MI, the driver of the yellow truck carrying sofas, was suspected of driving recklessly. The accident was recorded on CCTV cameras at the scene. The truck was seen hitting another vehicle before arriving at the Halim Toll Gate.
“This incident started with two vehicles before the second crime scene. So there was a first crime scene, namely the vehicle caused by a truck carrying furniture. So previously there had been an accident about 300 meters from the first crime scene. Later we will also investigate it, we will look at it carefully. two vehicles,” explained Kombes Pol Latif when he was at the scene, last Wednesday, (27/3).
After that, he continued, the truck drove at high speed as it approached the toll gate. When they arrived at the location, the truck hit a vehicle that was queuing.
“The person driving this truck broke through, meaning at high speed, it hit vehicles that were queuing on the Halim Toll Road,” he said again.
In fact, he continued, one of the pickup vehicles was thrown into Substation 5.
“Alhamdulillah, so far the initial information is that hopefully there are no fatalities. Only injuries. But we are still waiting for reports from the hospital. There are 4 people who suffered serious injuries,” said Kombes Pol Latif. (Bembo)
