progresifjaya.id, JAKARTA – The police regret the actions of residents who took the law into their own hands when catching and apprehending the perpetrators of the theft. Residents are also strongly advised to immediately contact the police if they arrest the perpetrator of the theft so that they can be prosecuted immediately.
This was the firm statement conveyed by the Kabid Humas of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Ade Ary Syam Indradi to journalists, Tuesday, (7/5).
“Please, citizens, don’t take the judge into their own hands because our country is a country of laws where everything is regulated by law. If you succeed in catching the perpetrator of a crime, don’t take the judge into your own hands,” he stressed.
He also asked RT and RW to always remind residents not to take the judge into their own hands. He reminded him that beatings were also an unlawful act.
“Special and firm appeal to RT and RW to encourage their residents not to take the law into their own hands because it violates the law. Increase security and awareness of residents so that theft or beatings do not occur,” said Kombes Pol Ade Ary.
Furthermore, he also asked the public to be more alert to motorbike theft by installing additional locks and improving security systems. Polda Metro Jaya also continues to conduct outreach and outreach to the community to better understand legal regulations through Friday Confide, Citizen Dialogue and Halo Police activities.
“We never stop socializing the potential legal threats against violators of taking the law into their own hands. There is Article 351 or 170 of the Criminal Code which we always convey and remind the public about,” said Kombes Pol Ade Ary.
“There will be appreciation from the police if the community succeeds in apprehending the perpetrators of theft who are caught red-handed,” he added.
As is known, in the last few days there have been frequent incidents of theft which have resulted in the perpetrators being beaten up by residents. One of them occurred in Koja, Jakarta Utara. The perpetrator of the motorbike thief with the initials MS (44), made a video call with his mother after being badly beaten by residents last Monday, (6/5).
During the video call, MS pointed his cellphone camera at the gathered residents. The residents also looked at the cell phone that MS was holding for video calls.
A similar beating incident also occurred in Tebet, Jakarta Selatan. The motorbike thief was attacked by residents and stripped naked. (Bembo)
