Polri Extort the Public and Internal Supervision Tends to be Blunt, AMMI Asks President to Open Public Complaints

progresifjaya.id, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Young Muslim Advocates (AMMI) asked President Prabowo Subianto to open public complaints specifically. This complaint is a form of President Prabowo’s concern to combat officials who extort the public.

As is known, there has been a lot of news about middle-ranking Polri officers being investigated on suspicion of extortion against parties involved in the police case. The most disgusting case was the case of a DWP viewer from Malaysia who was extorted by members of the Polda Metro Jaya drug investigation for up to Rp2,5 billion and resulted in the dishonorable discharge of several police officers.

“The President must immediately open special complaints for the public who want to report Polri members who have extorted the public. This is a form of the President’s concern for the public who are victims,” said AMMI Founder, Ali Yusuf to reporters through his written statement, Friday, (31/1).

Ali explained, that he was very sure that if President Prabowo Subianto quickly opened public complaints, there would be many officials in the Polri agency who would be implicated.  Moreover, he continued, the internal supervision function of the Polri has so far been considered ineffective, tending to be blunt and not running according to public expectations.

“Because those who examine fellow police officers are certainly not effective. It tends to be for image building. Who is sacrificed, who is saved. It’s always like this, the stealth scheme,” said Ali again.

According to him, what is happening in the police institution at this time is an emergency situation of protection for civilians who have legal problems. The President as head of state and head of government should quickly end it so that this problem does not continue to be neglected.

Ali also said, that President Prabowo must immediately take a stance and act to restore public trust which continues to decline in the state organization under his leadership. Moreover, public trust in the state organization is also decreasing day by day.

“We are waiting for President Prabowo’s commitment to become a servant and protector of the community,” he emphasized again.

On this occasion, Ali also appreciated a group of people who remain consistent and brave in supervising the performance of the police.

“Thank you to the people who dare to criticize, supervise the work of the Police who violate the law,” said Ali in appreciation.

Ahead of the 100-day work assessment of the Prabowo-Gibran cabinet, he continued, there are still many homeworks that have not been covered or completed. One of them is improving services in the police institution even though the image of public trust from the survey results is said to have increased.

“There are many problems that occur in the police institution that need to be fixed comprehensively by the President’s policy. The survey results are only a tentative picture and are not absolute. The increase in public trust in the Polri is tentative. Today it goes up tomorrow it could go down. But the survey does not explain this rhythm. It only takes it globally. So don’t be fooled by the survey results,” he said again. (Bembo)
