This statement seems fitting to be directed at the former Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri. Why? Because Firli is again trying to file a pretrial motion against the Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Karyoto to the South Jakarta District Court. His crushing defeat in the previous pretrial motion apparently could not deter him.
Responding to this, the Chairman of the IM57+ Institute, Lakso Anindito, in his statement warned that this case could be monitored by all parties in order to prevent the potential for hidden agreements or deals in handling this corruption case.
“I’m afraid there’s a story behind this pretrial motion so that Firli confidently and shamelessly files another pretrial motion,” said Lakso Anindito, Monday, (17/3).
He also further questioned the police’s reasons for failing to follow up on the alleged extortion of the former head of the anti-corruption agency against former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo. Moreover, he continued, Firli Bahuri still has the potential to take various steps and strategies to free himself from responsibility. This, said Lakso, happened because the police had not yet detained Firli Bahuri.
“Don’t forget that this case is a gamble on the credibility and capacity of the police in handling the case to completion, especially the credibility of Kapolda Karyoto in the eyes of the public and President Prabowo,” explained the former young KPK investigator.
He said, that the public would certainly question how the Corruption Eradication Corps—a new team formed to foster, prevent, investigate, and prosecute corruption—could not be clear in investigating the old case that has become a national concern.
“If (the police) are not capable, then the KPK needs to take over this case so that the resolution can be carried out completely.”
As is known, Firli Bahuri has again filed a pretrial motion against the Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Karyoto, at the South Jakarta District Court. The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
“Yes, that’s right, it has been registered at the South Jakarta District Court,” said Firli’s attorney, Ian Iskandar some time ago.
Based on a search in the South Jakarta District Court’s Case Tracking Information System (SIPP), the protection request is registered with the number 42.Pid.Pra/2025/PNJKT.SEL. The defendant in this lawsuit is the Kapolri cq Kapolda Metro Jaya Irjen Pol Karyoto. Ian said that the filing of this pretrial motion was part of Firli’s efforts to fight for justice for his suspect status.
“Fighting for his justice regarding his suspect status for more than 1 year and 4 months. There was a process of injustice that he experienced with fortitude and patience,” said Ian.
In this case, said Ian, Polda Metro Jaya not only committed procedural violations, but also substantively violated Firli’s human rights as a citizen. Given that Firli’s suspect status has been unclear for more than a year, which Ian called injustice.
Firli had also filed a pretrial motion against Kapolda Karyoto in 2023. This lawsuit ended with the judge’s decision to reject Firli’s application.
