progresifjaya.id, JAKARTA – The Polresta Bandung SIM Administration Unit (Satpas) on Jl. Bhayangkara Number 1, Soreang, Bandung Regency, West Java already has a surefire way to deal with the nosy behavior of journalists who like to make subjective and unbalanced ‘slanted’ news. Now, there is no longer an attitude of begging for the ‘slanted’ news to be taken down by the Polresta Bandung Satpas. This also includes eliminating the tradition of giving compensation money for takedowns to journalists according to the agreed amount.
Head of the Polresta Bandung Regident Unit, AKP Dini Kulsum in his official statement to progresifjaya.id said, that the attitude of the Polresta Bandung Satpas like that follows the regulations stipulated in Law Number 40 of 1999 concerning the Press. Meanwhile, regarding the takedown of news that has never been requested again, AKP Dini Kulsum said that point 5 of the Cyber Media Reporting Guidelines (PPMS) has clearly sorted out the criteria for news that can be taken down.
“We refer to the status of a legal press company in Indonesia. The criteria for news that can be taken down are if the content is about children in conflict with the law, victims of morality and trauma. If we violate it by forcing a takedown, it will fall into the category of censorship as prohibited by Article 4 paragraph (2) of Law Number 40 of 1999 concerning the Press and is subject to a 2-year prison sentence or a fine of Rp500 million,” explained AKP Dini Kulaum some time ago.
Meanwhile, regarding the request for the right of reply that is currently being used by the Polresta Bandung Satpas against ‘biased’ news, AKP Dini said that, this right can be used by the party being reported on to ask journalists to correct the wrong news.
If a press company violates the provisions regarding the right of reply, the company can be subject to a maximum fine of Rp500 million. This provision refers to the violation of Article 5 paragraph (2) and paragraph (3) which regulates the obligation of press companies to serve the right of reply, as well as the right of correction.
“So that’s our basic reference for changing our habits and attitudes to deal with the problem of ‘negative’ news attacking Satpas Soreang,” said AKP Dini.
“And this basic reference can also be a reference for all Satpas and Samsat when facing the problem of ‘negative’ news. The important thing is to remember to never follow the takedown request again. ‘negative’ news can still be broadcast but the broadcast must be balanced because there is also news with the right of reply. Press companies that do not provide the right of reply can simply report to the Press Council to be sanctioned. The matter is resolved,” he added again. (Bembo)
