Tricking Victims Up to Rp423 Million, Three Cyber Bandits Arrested by Ditressiber Polda Metro Jaya

progresifjaya.id, JAKARTA – The Cyber Investigation Directorate (Ditressiber) of Polda Metro Jaya has arrested three of four cyber bandits who committed fraud using various crime methods. As a result of the bandits’ actions, the victim lost Rp423 million and finally filed a report with Polda Metro Jaya.

The three cyber bandits who were arrested had the initials ORM (35), R (29), and APB (24). They were arrested at an apartment in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta, on Monday (23/6). Meanwhile, another bandit, A (29), is still being pursued.

In their scheming in cyberspace, these bandits’ movements are quite agile in changing modes. Starting from offering online jobs, love scamming, to fictitious investments. These bandits also used a photo of a celebrity from Malaysia to increase the appeal of their scam.

The mode of love scamming is an act of deception under the guise of romance. In this story, the beginning of the story begins when the male victim with the initials YW got to know a bandit through social media Instagram last May. After that, the victim was invited by the bandit to invest with the promise of a large profit, namely a 10% commission.

The bandit launched various devilish speech to make the victim believe and be sure. And true, within a month the victim was tricked into the bandit’s trap.

Deputy Director of Cyber Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Fian Yunus in his official statement said, in the process of getting to know the victim on Instagram, the bandit used a photo of a female celebrity from Malaysia. The goal was to increase the appeal of their deception and get the victim’s attention.

“After getting to know each other and becoming friends on Instagram, the reported or victim invited to chat via WhatsApp,” said AKBP Fian, Friday (4/7).

Communication then became more intense between the reported or victim and one of the bandits on WhatsApp.  Until finally at one point the bandit immediately changed his mode by offering the reported or victim to do business. To make the matter look cooler and more promising, an e-commerce website from China was faked by the bandit.

The Ditressiber Polda Metro Jaya arrested three cyber bandits who committed fraud using various methods that caused the victim to lose Rp423 million

“The bandit or reported offered part-time work online to the victim with the lure of a profit of 10% of the amount of capital deposited through a fake e-commerce website called ‘Banggood’,” explained AKBP Fian.

The victim who had been trapped by the bandit’s love scamming from the start was immediately interested and deposited some initial capital. In the early stages of joining, the bandit’s tricky action was to dare to give a head start. The 10% commission promised to the victim was given based on the calculation of the capital that had been invested. The victim became even more lulled.

The bandit’s timing to bomb the victim was finally obtained. The victim was asked to increase the amount of his deposit so that it would shine. So in the end the victim or reporter transferred capital of Rp423 million to the bandit. Caught!

“Because the victim had felt the results and was sure it would be easier, the victim finally transferred a larger amount of capital in stages until it reached a total of Rp423.233.000,” said AKBP Fian again.

Well, as time went by, the victim then demanded the profit promised by the bandit. But because it was basically a fraudulent act, the bandit kept making excuses. Until finally the victim realized that he had become a victim of fraud.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Relations Sub-Division of the Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Reonald Simanjuntak also added, that from the results of the investigation it was revealed that the three bandits who were arrested and became suspects had work experience as scammers in Cambodia.

Because of the demands of life’s needs, they used that work experience to commit evil by committing fraud online. They have been doing this fraudulent act since the beginning of this year. (Bembo)
